David Morrell Accepts Benavidez Challenge To Division

Off his impressive showing in the Showtime/PBC super middleweight main event Saturday, unbeaten, interim WBC 168 lb. champ David Benavidez did a lot of talking post-fight about possible future opponents. And, at least one of them is ready to take his challenge, now.

Undefeated super middleweight, David Morrell Jr. (6-0, 5 KOs), responded to Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) and his comments after his win by third round TKO over David Lemieux in Glendale, AZ. Benavidez referenced Morrell Jr.,  former IBF world champ Caleb Plant and current WBC middleweight title holder Jermall Charlo as “bitches,” and that he would knock everyone out.

“I ain’t no bitch and you’re going to find out,” stated Morrell from his camp. “I’m from Cuba and I’m not afraid to fight you. I’ve beaten bigger and better fighters than you. So right after this fight I got coming up, get your ass ready.”

Benavidez and Morrell appear to likely opponents, as both are under the Premier Boxing Champions umbrella of fighters. And now, both fighters have now addressed interest in making their fight a reality.

Morrell is scheduled to put his WBA secondary super middleweight title on the line in a 12-round bout against Kalvin Henderson (15-1-1, 11 KOs), live on Showtime  on the undercard of Stephen Fulton- Danny Roman unified super bantamweight clash on June 4th in Minnesota.

Morrell, a Cuban defector who now lives and trains in Minnesota, won his last bout there in a PBC show by TKO over Alantez Fox in just four rounds. Now, he has bigger bouts in mind.

“I have business to handle of June 4th against Henderson, a fight I’m taking very seriously,” concluded Morrell. “After that, I’m on the hunt for Benavidez’ head. “There is no ‘bitch’ in me, after my fight, I’m gonna make you my bitch” No need to talk no more I’m gonna show you better than I can tell you…see you soon BITCH.”
