David Benavidez airs latest Canelo feelings
On September 12, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Canelo Alvarez returns to action against Christian Mbilli, with Mbilli’s WBC super middleweight title on the line. As we build up to Canelo’s return, David Benavidez, who holds the WBC light heavyweight title and WBO/WBA cruiserweight titles, has spoken to the media, airing his feelings on a potential fight with Canelo.
David Benavidez vs Canelo
Benavidez vs Canelo is a fight that has been discussed and rumoured in recent years.
Benavidez (32-0, 26 KOs) was last seen in action, fighting Gilberto Ramirez, and El Monstruo dominated and stopped Ramirez to rip the cruiserweight titles away from him.
Canelo (63-3-2, 39 KOs) lost to Terence Crawford last time out, but is due to return to action on September 12 to face Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title.
David Benavidez against Canelo would have to be at 175, but after going up to 200 pounds to win the cruiserweight titles, it would be difficult to go down 25 pounds again. At 35 years old, it would also be asking a lot for Alvarez to move up to 175 pounds and challenge Benavidez, who has dominated every opponent.
Benavidez airs latest feelings about Canelo
David Benavidez and Canelo Alvarez have both said plenty about the rumoured fight between them, and when recently speaking to the media, Benavidez was asked about facing the legendary Mexican:
“The reason that did not happen, I don’t know. I was ready. I can still be semi-complete at 175. He fought like two or three times there. And if he wants to make the fight, I can lose that weight. He’s saying it’s impossible, that I can’t go down.
“I can go down, and if they want that fight, 100% ready to fight. But I’m already here, kind of frustrating me with every time I do something or win a belt, Canelo is there. Canelo’s name, Canelo, Canelo. I told you, I can’t do anything there. I also want that fight too, just like you all want the fight. It can’t be done.”
