Chris Eubank Jr Activates Rematch Clause With Liam Smith
Not unexpectedly, popular British middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. has decided that he wants another crack at the man who knocked him out last month. This, as Eubank announced Tuesday that he has invoked his one way, rematch clause in his deal with Liam Smith.
Eubank posted his decision with a pink drink cup in hand for Valentines Day on social media,

“This morning I activated the rematch clause via my lawyers & sent to my promoters @Wasserman Happy Valentines Day,” Eubank wrote.
The 33 year old son of the legendary star of the 1990s, was surprised and stopped early in his main event battle with his fellow, prominent British contender Smith on January 21st in Manchester, England.
As we wrote in the recap mode, after a somewhat slow first couple of rounds the action picked up in the third.. That’s when Eubank used his reach advantage and scored with his jab, and then, eventually a couple of solid uppercuts for the best action of the fight.
However, it would be short-lived, as Smith, who improved to 33-3, 20 KOs, cornered Eubank in the first :30 of the fourth round, hitting him with a solid overhand right. Next, a tremendous left uppercut jolted Eubank followed by another hard left hook that sent Eubank to the canvas on the seat of his pants and in big trouble.
The fight could have honestly been stopped at that point as Eubank, who dropped to 32-3, was clearly out of it and staggering to the middle of the ring while the count was going on.
Still, referee Victor Loughlin allowed the bout to continue and Smith landed another solid overhand right that rocked Eubank, now 32-3-1, further and eventually, landed another inside combination with Eubank stumbling and lunging at him to end up on the ground a second time.
That’s when the fight was halted for good by Loughlin.
The win has re-energized the 34 year old Smith, who previously lost world title challenges to Jaime Mungia in 2017 and Canelo Alvarez nearly eight years ago. And, he said in the ring in Manchester that he would look at all his options, including meeting Eubank, again.
Now, Smith will apparently get that chance and likely make significantly more money to do it.
