Katie Taylor Becomes Undisputed Super Lightweight Champion

Chantelle Cameron spoiled Katie Taylor’s homecoming in May this year when she defeated the Irish legend via majority decision. Taylor started the rematch well, but Cameron came on strong towards the end of the opening round. The Irish fighter won the next few rounds, boxing great inside and on the back foot, landing eye-catching combinations and showcasing her speed.

As we reached the middle rounds, “Il Capo” kept coming forward, landing heavy shots and showcasing her brilliant jab. Despite Taylor tiring, her heart and experience never waivered as she stayed in the pocket and traded with the English fighter. The last two rounds – were full of unbelievable action – with both throwing everything they had at each other.

The judge’s scorecards read 95-95, 98-92 and 96-94 for Taylor, with “KT” gaining redemption on a historic night in Dublin as she became a two weight undisputed champion.

Post-fight Quotes

In the post-fight interview, when asked how she was feeling, Taylor said: “Two-weight undisputed champion sounds very nice.”

After thanking the crowd, Taylor exclaimed: “This is my real homecoming tonight.”

When asked how she believed she could win: “Whoever wrote me off doesn’t know me well.” Taylor was also full of praise for her opponent: “Chantelle is a phenomenal fighter and champion.

Taylor concluded: “Let’s get the trilogy at Croke Park.

Promoter Eddie Hearn was full of praise for the Irish fighter and said: “The single greatest night I have experienced in this sport.”
