Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Sept. 26 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.
Johnny Fisher vs. Michael Pirotton press conference quotes
Johnny Fisher
“What performance do I want to put on?” said Fisher. “I want to put on a winning performance, no matter how that comes. Pirotton is going to pose some serious questions. A man with ambition. Never been stopped and this is the biggest stage that he’s been on. So he’s gonna come here, as they always do, and bring their best. A winning performance [is what I want to put on].”
“Michael is gonna be a professional himself. So as much as it is fantastic having a fanbase I have, I’m grateful for it, when we get into that ring it’s one man versus another man. So as much as the crowd will build me, I’ve still got to do my job. Stick to the plan. Me and Craig [Richards] have done excellently in this camp. We sparred over 150 rounds. I’m very focused on delivering my best performance to date.”
Michael Pirotton
“I’ve been able to see [a British boxing] show last time when Moses Itauma was fighting Jermaine Franklin,” said Pirotton. “I was pretty amazed by the British fans. I know Johnny has his own army so I guess they’re going to be noisy. It’s a nice experience. I look forward to it.”
“You think I’m a fool? I’m not gonna say all my tricks because my best advantage is people not knowing me and underestimating me. You’re going to see on Saturday.”
Fight prediction
From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Fisher has shown he carries plenty of power and is comfortable setting a fast pace and overwhelming opponents. However, against Dave Allen, it showed that if an opponent has a good chin and can drag him into the later rounds, he can struggle.
Pirotton’s record suggests that he has a good chin, and on the limited footage available, he looks to utilise his jab to maintain distance before swinging the right hand at his opponent. The fascinating part of this fight is that no one really knows just how hard the Belgian hits, and just how strong his chin is, but we should find out quickly on Sept. 26.
Would we be shocked if Fisher lost? No, but it’s almost impossible to pick Pirotton based on the lack of footage available on him. I think Fisher will be hurt, but will come through the fight and win by stoppage during rounds 4-6.
