Jermall Charlo names top target ahead of Koen Mazoudier clash
On October 17, Jermall Charlo vs Koen Mazoudier is set to take place on the Sebastian Fundora vs Ermal Hadribeaj undercard at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. This will be Charlo’s first fight since stopping Thomas LaManna in 2025. Charlo-Mazoudier will take place in the super middleweight division, and ahead of this bout, the “Hit Man” spoke to Fight Hub TV, where he named one desired opponent, while welcoming any big fight at 168 pounds.
Jermall Charlo finally set to face Koen Mazoudier
On July 25, at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park, New South Wales, Jermall Charlo was set to face Koen Mazoudier on the Errol Spence Jr vs Tim Tszyu undercard, but the fight was ultimately postponed. As Dan Rafael and others reported at the time, the fight was postponed due to Charlo experiencing visa issues. They have now found a new home on the upcoming Fundora-Hadribeaj card.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) has suffered from inactivity in recent years, through injuries and personal problems, resulting in him only fighting twice since beating Juan Macias Montiel in 2021. He has impressive wins against fighters such as Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Brandon Adams, and Austin Trout.
Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs) has never fought at the level of Charlo, but he has won four fights in a row since losing to Nikita Tszyu in 2024. He’s an aggressive fighter who will come forward and look to operate with high-volume attacks. He will look to punish any mistake Charlo makes, but it is difficult to see him having too much joy against a Charlo who is anywhere near his best.
Charlo names one future target at 168 pounds
Speaking to Fight Hub TV about his future targets at 168, Charlo said: “I would even like to fight Demetrius Andrade at 68. We’re not just gonna keep waiting…the guys who are at the top, I just want the top fighters, and wherever the top fighters are at, I’m here.
“I’m right in the mix with them. I’m new to 168; I’m here to take over 168!”
The Big Fight Weekend verdict
At his best, Jermall Charlo is an aggressive fighter on the inside who picks his punches impressively. He’s at his most dangerous when fighting at mid-to-short range. He looked dominant in his return against LaManna, scoring three knockdowns before the fight was stopped by the doctor, awarding Jermall Charlo the sixth-round TKO victory.
It remains to be seen how much the inactivity has affected his ability to operate at the highest level, and we may not get that doubt answered until he steps up in competition. If boxing can get a Jermall Charlo at anywhere near his peak, the sport is in a stronger place for it.
