Fury vs Joshua: Peter Fury gives his verdict

Negotiations for Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury appeared to be at an impasse, with the venue of the fight seemingly the sticking point. However, recent reports suggested the UK was still a leading candidate to host the fight, with Eddie Hearn also saying his and Anthony Joshua’s desire for the fight to be in the UK has been heard. It feels like we are edging closer to a huge announcement, and Tyson Fury’s estranged uncle, Peter Fury, and Tony Bellew spoke on Fight Your Corner, in partnership with Midnite, where Peter gave his verdict on how Fury vs Joshua would pan out.

Fury vs Joshua: Eddie Hearn gives the latest

It seemed this fight was destined for Madison Square Garden, but recently the UK has reappeared as the likely venue. In a recent interview, Eddie Hearn gave a positive update on Fury vs Joshua being made and happening in the UK:

“We know we’ve been heard. We know the public has been heard as well. And if we can get it over the line, it will be a very proud moment for myself and particularly for Anthony to bring this massive fight to the UK.

“We’ll have to see. But I’m pretty comfortable with our position, because I think now it’s been well established by everybody involved that we’re not moving. It is happening in the UK, and there’s nothing you can do to change my mind, and more importantly, Anthony Joshua’s mind.” 

Peter Fury weighs in on Fury vs Joshua

Discussing the Fury vs Joshua fight with Tony Bellew, Peter Fury said:

“As a boxing man, I think [Fury vs AJ] has come too late. But look, the money’s there and I think the payday is massive, so why not? So, they can finish off their careers with a massive paycheck.”

Reflecting on when Tyson was at his best, Peter said:

“Back in the day, when he beat Klitschko, there wouldn’t have been any heavyweight to stand with him. Because he is a special talent. He always has been. But the thing is, I’m not just saying it, forget about me, but when he fought Klitschko, that’s the best Tyson. I’ve never really seen him in that form since, to be honest. But he’s had some good wins, and he’s been an exceptional talent. That’s why he is where he is.”

“I think Tyson is either going to outbox and he’ll get to Joshua, or Joshua’s going to find a target and he’ll clean him out. So, it’s one or the other, isn’t it? I think it comes down to what game plans they’re going to do,” Fury added.
