Welterweight division heats up with Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez next

After Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez and Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn, it remains to be seen what is next for Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs) and Liam Paro.

Haney did look likely to face Keyshawn Davis before Davis left Bob Arum “totally perplexed” when he withdrew from negotiations. BoxingScene recently reported that WBO President Gustavo Olivieri told them his executive committee would look favourably on potential requests from IBF welterweight champion Liam Paro and WBO 140lbs champion Shakur Stevenson to fight Haney.

Jack Catterall, the WBA ‘regular’ champion, has also been linked with a potential showdown against WBO champ Haney. The welterweight division appears to be heating up, and it all starts on August 22 with Rolly vs Lopez.

Lopez Sr issues bold challenge ahead of Rolly Romero vs Teofimo Lopez

When asked for his thoughts on the upcoming fight between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn, Teofimo Lopez Sr said: “That’s a good fight, and I think we’ll take the winner of that. Whoever wins (Garcia-Benn), it’ll be a great fight (Teofimo vs the winner).”

When asked if it was up to him who his son would face next: “Like I said, the winner of Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn. Going straight right there, and then if Liam Paro is still around or whoever else it is, we’re just gonna try and take all the weight division at 147, become undisputed again,” said Teofimo Lopez Sr.
