Title fights from around the world – José Salas, Jasmine Artiga, and Isabel Rivero edition

Today, boxing world title fights take place around the globe and are more accessible to watch than ever before. Sometimes, championship bouts do not receive as much attention and go underreported. Big Fight Weekend commits to writing about boxing news, previews and recaps. As such, the site now has a recurring segment on championship bouts from around the world from the past week.

The focus of these pieces will be on clashes ranging from atomweight to heavyweight that had the WBA, WBC, IBF, and/or WBO titles on the line. This week’s edition of “Title Fights From Around the World” consists of three recaps. In México, a new bantamweight champion was crowned. Over in the United States, a reigning super flyweight titlist made a successful defence. Big Fight Weekend also recaps an atomweight title fight it missed back in November.

José Salas, Jasmine Artiga, and Isabel Rivero victorious in their title fights

José Salas vs. Landile Ngxeke fight recap

José Salas (17-0, 11 KOs) defeated Landile Ngxeke (16-2-1, 8 KOs) via seventh round technical knockout to become the latest bantamweight titleholder.

The official time of stoppage was 1:54. Salas is now the IBF bantamweight world champion with the victory. Junto Nakatani held the belt previously, but moved up to super bantamweight and vacated his titles. As a result, the vacant IBF title was put on the line for Salas-Ngxeke.

Their bout headlined a Dec. 13 Bxstrs Promotions boxing card at the Explanada de la Alcaldía Gustavo A. Madero in México City, México. Fight fans in the country could catch the action live on Canal 5. It was also available on ESPN Deportes for those in the United States. Those in Latin America could watch live with ESPN KnockOut.

Salas’s reach allowed him to keep his opponent at bay for the duration of the contest. Ngxeke struggled to land much of substance, missing with his jabs and counter shots. Salas gradually broke down the South African. With over a minute to go in round seven, he trapped Ngxeke in a corner of the ring and unleashed several punches to the head. This caused the referee to step in and end proceedings. However, Ngxeke had not suffered any knockdown and was still standing when the fight was ended. Although he insisted he could continue, it was too late.

Jasmine Artiga vs. Stephanie Silva fight recap

Jasmine Artiga (15-0-1, 7 KOs) defended her title for the second time in 2025 with a unanimous decision against Stephanie Silva (10-2, 0 KOs).

Scores for their bout were 100-90, 99-91, and 97-93. Artiga remains the WBA super flyweight world champion with the victory. She won the title earlier this year against Regina Chávez.

Artiga-Silva took place on a Dec. 13 Boxlab Promotions boxing card at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on the Boxlab Promotions YouTube channel.

The title was not at stake for Silva as she weighed 4.5 lbs over the super flyweight limit. Artiga had plenty of success with the jab and her better fundamentals was clear to see. However, as the fight progressed she found it harder to keep the challenger at bay. Closing the distance made it easier for Silva to land her swinging shots. Although Artiga was still able to outbox the Italian, she was not experiencing the same level of dominance as she had been in the earlier rounds. The judges did not see things that way, each scoring the contest wide for the reigning champion.

Isabel Rivero vs. Silvia Torres fight recap

Note: This title fight took place in November. However, Big Fight Weekend was not aware of its occurrence and failed to report on it at the time. As a result, it is being recapped in this edition of “Title Fights From Around the World.”

Isabel Rivero (12-3-1, 1 KO) is the latest to become an atomweight titlist with a majority decision victory against Silvia Torres (22-5-3, 7 KOs).

Although one judge had the action 95-95, the other two saw it 97-93 and 96-94. Rivero is now the WBA atomweight world champion with the win. Tina Rupprecht previously held the title but retired earlier this year. As a result, the vacant belt was put at stake for Rivero-Torres.

Their bout headlined a Nov. 21 Tundra Promotions boxing card at the Cúpula del Milenio in Valladolid, Spain. There does not appear to have been a broadcaster for the fight.

According to the WBA, the fight was competitive. Rivero maintained control of the distance and relied on counterpunching. Torres used her heavier hands in an attempt to break down her opponent. In the end, Rivero had just a bit more quality and two of the judges had her winning the contest.
