5 Underrated Australian and New Zealand Fighters to Watch

Underrated Australian and New Zealand Fighters: David Nyika

David Nyika (10-1, 9 KOs) suffered a brutal loss earlier this year against Jai Opetaia. It was a heavy KO, so it remains to be seen what effect this will have on the New Zealander. In that defeat, he showed some great qualities, with his come-forward style and shot selection. If he can overcome that KO defeat and launch a comeback – at 29, “Mr Nice Guy” has all the tools to make an impact in 2025 and beyond.

Conor Wallace

Conor Wallace (15-1, 11 KOs), the Australian southpaw born in Northern Island, inked a deal with Matchroom Boxing at the end of 2024. The 29-year-old has recovered well since his only career loss to Leti Leti in 2021, which he avenged the following year. He moves his feet well, which helps him control the distance in his fights. Wallace is due back in action on June 8 against Dylan Colin. With the backing of Matchroom, Wallace should get ample opportunities to impress.

Tyler Blizzard

Tyler Blizzard (9-0, 4 KOs) is making a name for himself in the featherweight division and is definitely one to watch for the remainder of 2025 and beyond. He carries power and picks his shots impressively. He also mixes his shots well and never rushes his work. He will face the biggest test of his career on June 8 against Rocky Ogden.

Cooper O’Connell

Cooper O’Connell (1-0, 1 KO) dazzled on his professional debut and looks destined for big things in the sport. He moves his feet well and throws with venom. His fast hands and accurate shot selection make him a nightmare to face. The talented 18-year-old southpaw should be back in action soon.

Callum Peters

Another promising Aussie fighter to watch out for is Callum Peters (2-0, 2 KOs). The Adelaide native enjoyed an impressive amateur career, seamlessly transitioning to the professional ranks. Peters does not stop coming forward. He’s all action and looks to work the body of his opponents. He carries plenty of power and looks set to be an exciting prospect moving forward.

It remains to be seen how far these underrated Australian and New Zealand fighters can go, but the future looks bright.
