Thad Buntsma (5-3-1, 2 KOs) and Cody Kelly (4-9-3, 0 KOs) will not only be looking to get a win over each other but also to become the Canadian super welterweight champion.
Both men face each other on a November 30 United Boxing Promotions event at the Pickering Casino Resort in Ontario, Canada. There is no broadcast for the card and those interested in watching will have to buy a ticket to catch the action. Big Fight Weekend will be present and providing coverage, so be sure to return to the website or head to X for updates.
Ahead of the Saturday night card, Big Fight Weekend previews each of the fights that are scheduled to take place.
Thad Buntsma vs. Cody Kelly 2: Full Fight Card Preview
Thad Buntsma vs. Cody Kelly 2
These two previously fought each other earlier this year at the same venue. In a bout contested over six rounds, Buntsma won a majority decision with scores of 59-55, 58-56 and 57-57. While that fight was a six-rounder, this time Buntsma and Kelly will be fighting over 10 rounds with the vacant Canadian super welterweight title at stake.
Should either man win the rematch, it would be their first time winning a professional boxing title. Kelly is currently on a six-fight losing streak going back over two years. A win for him not only snaps that streak but also gets him some silverware. Buntsma’s last two bouts have been at the Pickering Casino Resort and he has won both. In addition to extending his win streak to three, he will hope to become the Canadian super welterweight champion.
Kemahl Russell vs. Douglas Ataide
Some people may remember Kemahl Russell (17-1, 15 KOs) from the time he lost to Sergiy Derevyanchenko on a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card back in 2017. After that loss, he fought and won his next three fights before taking five years off from the sport. Russell now fights on Canadian cards and is currently 4-0 since making his comeback. On Saturday, he faces Douglas Ataide (19-4-1, 10 KOs), a Brazilian who will have his first fight of the year when they clash. This 10-round bout is an opportunity for both men to progress in the middleweight division.
Jerome Gabriel vs. Gregory Miller
This is a light heavyweight fight being contested over four rounds. Jerome Gabriel (4-0, 2 KOs) turned professional in late 2016. After three fights in a six-month span, he went roughly seven years without a bout. He will now have his second fight of 2024 against Gregory Miller (2-11, 2 KOs), a Jamaican who has lost his last five. While Miller rarely wins, he has been the more active fighter of the two over the last three years.
Kyle McLaughlin vs. Dylan Rushton 2
Buntsma-Kelly 2 will not be the only rematch taking place on this card. Kyle McLaughlin (5-0, 4 KOs) and Dylan Rushton (3-13-3, 0 KOs) last fought earlier this year at the same venue (Buntsma-Kelly 1 was also on that card). While one judge saw Rushton winning 39-37, the other two had it 39-37 for McLaughlin. That was a four-round bout. This time, their welterweight contest will be a six-rounder.
Joshua Frazer vs. Petr Brodsky
Originally, a fighter by the name of Ioannis Birmpilis was to be on this card. However, an injury to him now means that Joshua Frazer (11-0, 8 KOs) will face Petr Brodsky (4-3, 1 KO) instead. This is a late addition to the card and it was only made official three days before the event takes place.
