Adam Azim Shines Against Ohara Davies at the Copper Box

Adam Azim (12-0, 9 KOs) dazzled against Ohara Davies (25-4, 18 KOs) on October 19 at the Copper Box Arena London against Ohara Davies (25-3, 18 KOs). Their super lightweight contest was the main event of the Boxxer Promotions card, shown live on Sky Sports for fight fans in the United Kingdom, while those in the United States could watch on Peacock.

The opening round saw a fast start from Azim as he let his laser-like jab go to the head and body of his opponent. The Slough native also landed a good right hand during the round. Davies appeared to be trying to get used to the exceptional speed of his Azim.

The next two rounds saw Azim continue to let his jab go smartly, but Davies had his moments – with the Slough fighter looking comfortable on the front foot.

The fifth round saw a left hand, which hurt Davies. Azim followed up with a left to the body – scoring a knockdown for the Slough fighter. Azim is systematically taking his opponent apart. “The Assassin” looks dominant on the front foot, picking his shots beautifully. Davies is brave, but Azim is impressive in the pocket and on the back foot.

The eighth round saw the domination continue, with the dazzling hand speed of Azim ensuring he continued to be in charge before a sharp left hook, knocked Davies down, who couldn’t beat the count.

It was an impressive performance from a fighter who continues to improve and is destined for big fights sooner rather than later.

Post Fight Quotes

In the post-fight interview, Azim and Davies both spoke together, with Azim obviously pleased with his performance: “Yeah, it was my best performance. I had to be ready for him,” said Azim.

Davies then said: “Adam will go far in the sport of boxing.”  He then revealed: “This might be the end of my boxing career.”

Azim then spoke about what could be next: “I want to fight Dalton Smith next year. I want to beat Harlem Eubank next year.”

Undercard

After the main event had taken place, Lewis Edmondson (10-0, 3 KOs) defeated Dan Azeez (20-2-1, 13 KOs) to win the vacant British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles. The judge’s scorecards read 114-114, 114-113 and 115-112, all in favour of the Southampton-born fighter.

Anthony Yarde (26-3, 24 KOs) returned after eight months out of the ring, defeating Ralfs Vilcans (17-2, 7 KOs) 98-92 in their 10-round light heavyweight bout. Despite scoring a knockdown in round one, his Latvian opponent kept the fight competitive until the final bell.

Heavy-handed Tulani Mbenge (21-2, 15 KOs) outworked Michael McKinson (26-2, 4 KOs) to win the vacant IBO world welterweight title. The judge’s scorecards read 116-112 x2 and 117-111.

Prelims

Jeamie Tshikeva (7-1, 4 KOs) won his heavyweight bout, stopping the previously undefeated Franklin Ignatius (6-1-1, 1 KO) in the sixth round.

Francesca Hennessy (5-0, 1 KOs) won the WBA Intercontinental Super Bantamweight title after outpointing Ana Karla Vaz De Moraes (5-1, 2 KOs) 78-74.

On his professional debut, Sam Hickey (1-0, 0 KOs) recorded an impressive victory, defeating John Henry Mosquera (5-19, 1 KO) 40-36 in the middleweight bout.

In the opening fight of the prelims, shown on TikTok live, there was a big upset with Shannon Courtenay (8-3, 3 KOs) losing her comeback fight against Catherine Tacone Ramos (6-3-1, 0 KOs) in a four-round featherweight contest. The scorecard for the fight read 58-56.
