Buatsi Beats Azeez in Unanimous Decision Win

Buatsi-Azeez was originally scheduled for October 21, 2023, but due to a back injury sustained by Azeez – the fight was delayed until now.

Both fighters began looking to work off their jab, but early on in the fight, despite Azeez having success, Buatsi was putting his punches together well – landing impressive combinations.

Azeez began to settle more as the fight progressed, but Buatsi continuously worked well to the body of his opponent. Round five saw both fighters sit down on their shots and throw bombs.

“Super” began to apply good pressure as the fight entered the championship rounds, but Buatsi was still having good success. Round 11 saw the Ghanaian-born fighter land a short, sharp right hand which floored his Brit opponent and again at the end of the round, he knocked him down once more.

Round 12 saw both fighters bite down on their gumshields and go toe-to-toe, with “Just Business” landing the cleaner shots against a clearly tired Azeez. The judge’s scorecards confirmed what many thought. 116-110 and 117-109 x2 in favour of Joshua Buatsi.

Post Fight Quotes

In the post-fight interview, Buatsi thanked the crowd after the fight and spoke highly of Azeez: “He pushed me every round.” He continued: “He made me fight every second.

Azeez could not hide his disappointment but paid tribute to his opponent and said: “I lost to the better man tonight.” He added: “It was just business today.”

Buatsi had the last word and expressed his desire to challenge for a world title.
