Former Opponent of Canelo Álvarez and David Benavidez Reveals Who Punches Harder

Many in the boxing world have wished to see David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) take on Canelo Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs), a fight Benavidez has expressed he wants. Despite the desire of “The Monster,” Canelo has not seemed so keen on making the fight. When speaking to Dan Rafael, Canelo said: “I always fight with everybody and always with the people they say I do not want to fight. I’m always involved in those kinds of fights and right now I’m in the position, I can do whatever I want, and I do not want to give that opportunity to him because he brings 20lbs more than me on fight night.” The rumours of the two fighting have not completely gone away, and Caleb Plant, a former opponent of both has revealed who he thinks punches harder when speaking to Fight Hub TV.

Plant vs. Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez

“Sweethands” faced Canelo on November 6, 2021, with Plant trying to control the distance and keep Álvarez out of range, but around the midpoint of the contest, Canelo began to walk down his opponent and outwork him, with the fight ending in the eleventh as Canelo landed a flush right uppercut, followed by a left hook, and despite beating the count, the Mexican fighter floored Plant again, ending the fight.

Plant faced Benavidez on March 25, 2023, and was boxing smartly for the first half of the fight, throwing shots before moving out of range. These tactics saw him slow down as the fight progressed, and the pressure tactics and reach advantage of Benavidez saw him take over in the homestretch to win the fight by unanimous decision with the judges scorecards reading 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111.

Caleb Plant Reveals Who Punches Harder

The Nashville native, who has faced both Canelo and Benavidez, has shared his thoughts on who he believes punches harder: “Canelo hits harder for one punch. He hits harder than David.”

However, Plant did praise Benavidez by saying: “David puts them together not just [better] than Canelo but most people in boxing. David can put his hands together.”

As fans await a potential Canelo vs. Benavidez fight, Caleb Plant’s insights into the power of Álvarez and the superior combination punching of Benavidez will have fans still dreaming of this mega fight.
