Errol Spence Re-affirmed “Not Worried About Eye” Thursday
With his huge Unification World Welterweight title bout against WBA World champ Yordenis Ugas looming next month, unbeaten WBC/IBF titleholder Errol Spence made clear again Thursday afternoon that he isn’t worried about his surgically repaired eye.
Spence took part in an “open workout” and media session at the World Class Boxing Gym in his native Dallas in advance of the April 16th 147 lb. PPV showdown at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. And, Spence made clear that he’s not concerned about Ugas or the repercussions from the eye injury that kept him from fighting legend Manny Pacquiao last August.

“I’m feeling good and I’m ready to go. This layoff was easier for me after the injury than the one after the accident because it was a lot less stress on my body. Mentally I was also prepared for what I was going to go through,” Spence said to the media.
“I’ve been putting in a lot of work and I’m not worried about my eye at all. It actually feels stronger than the other one….
I watched the Ugas vs. Manny Pacquiao fight live but I haven’t watched it since then. I thought the way that fight went was more because of Pacquiao being a shell of himself.
“I’ve been looking forward to this fight since I had to drop out of the Pacquiao bout. I knew I would be fighting the winner, and now I’ve got Ugas in front of me.”
Spence, 27-0, 21 KOs, will headline again at the massive 90,000 seat venue known as “Jerry’s World” for the Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones. He’s fought on PPV there three previous times, including his win in December of 2020 over contender Danny Garcia. But, the biggest question to answer is how will the 15 months in between that bout and this Ugas fight be predicated on Spence’s eye?
We obviously, won’t know until we see him and most importantly, Ugas starts to use the long jab that he dominated Pacquiao with last Summer.
Ugas is 27-4, and replaced Spence on less than two weeks notice in August to score the upset win over Pacquiao by decision in a career-defining moment.
And, he will pose a tall, formidable threat to the home region favorite Spence come April 16th.
There are so many intriguing angles to one of the more important medium weight battles of 2022.
