Errol Spence Announced Ugas Unficiation Bout For April

The return of IBF/WBC World Welterweight champ Errol Spence will happen in a familiar place. This, as the unbeaten champ announced Tuesday morning that he’ll meet WBA World Champ Yordenis Ugas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.

The unbeaten Texas native Spence confirmed on social media the bout will happen April 16th against the Cuban born Ugas,

“I’m back  @ATTStadium against WBA champion Ugas April 16th… ” the post read.

This is the first confirmation of the rumored Spence return after eye surgery last Summer and the meeting with the fighter who upset legendary Manny Pacquiao and retired him in Las Vegas last August. Spence was to have fought Pacquiao in a mega fight PPV before a detached retina was discovered in his training a couple of weeks before the bout.

Spence, 27-0, 21 KOs, has only had one fight/title defense, since his horrific one car crash in Dallas October of 2019. That accident came just two weeks after he had added the WBC 147 lb. World title in a decision win over Shawn Porter in L.A. The Texan, who was later found to be driving while impaired, sent his car catapulting and was ejected, suffering a concussion and a fractured jaw.

Spence eventually returned to the ring after a year off and defeated contender Danny Garcia in a 12 round decision in December of 2020. That bout was also held AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. Spence also previously defended his title there in March of 2019 with a win over former World Lightweight champ, Mikey Garcia.

As for Ugas, he’s 27-4, with the Pacquiao win by decision being career-defining. He used his superior jab and long right hand to keep Pacquiao at bay to win a 12 round unanimous decision win.

Now, it sets him up for the chance to hold three of the 147 lb. world titles and make the biggest payday of his career.

AT&T stadium is a massive 90,000 stadium for the NFL, but will likely have around 30,000 capacity in its lower levels and floor seating for the fight with the bigger component being PPV.
