Deontay Wilder – ‘I Just Want To Beat His A–“
Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (42-1-1,41 KOs) made ten successful title defenses over a fiver year span while holding the WBC title before being stopped by Fury in the seventh round against Tyson Fury in February 2020.
Wilder spoke with the boxing media via Zoom ahead of the trilogy fight on October 9, and his message was simple on what he wants to do with Fury.
“I just want to beat his a–,” Wilder stated, speaking to the call Wednesday afternoon.
We have heard all of this for several years now, and it that tone hasn’t changed on the call with Wilder but what was worth noting is that Wilder on the call was very relaxed and calm through the call. Even when media overseas questioned why he didn’t go to the police over that whole “egg weights” talk.
The biggest takeaway from the call I can report to you is that Wilder is in the camp of “pro vaccinations,” which we have seen delay this fight taking place and others across the globe during this pandemic. It’s big business, and while corporations try to enforce that here in the United States, Wilder just got the shot for his team and because his doc said so.
“You can’t tell grown people what to do, and you can’t try to. We thought it was a great idea to get vaccinated just in case. My fight was already canceled due to the claims of the situation. I got the shot, so there are no excuses, ” Wilder stated.”
“A lot of people are frightened from what they’ve heard. For me, we thought it would be a great idea for us all to get vaccinated, the whole team. I trust my doctor, and my doctor was the one to calm me down & get it.”

This is something that we have mentioned on The Big Fight Weekend Podcast on several shows. As T.J. Rives and I have seen during this pandemic, COVID being the number one stopper of all fights ahead of “sparring injury” and big right hands during the latter half of the year.
Wilder kept it simple despite the layoff and long delays and had his eyes planted on October 9.
“I feel amazing, and that’s the keyword. Some people feel good. Some people feel great, but I feel amazing. The time that has passed has helped in training. Not only in this fight to come but fights in the future. Wilder stated.
“Everything has changed. I’m super focused and more than I have been in my entire career. This is the 2nd phase of my career. In the first album, I had ten title defenses. Some appreciated it. Some didn’t.”
While this may be the sophomore LP at a WBC belt for Wilder, he said the one sentence the whole world of boxing has been saying for months on this call.
“Hopefully, nothing else will interfere, and finally, we can turn the chapter,” Wilder noted.
Fingers crossed here as this is shaping up to be worth the wait on October 9 in Las Vegas to settle the score between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.
