George Liddard and Dario Morello face off

George Liddard (14-0, 8 KOs) and Dario Morello (26-1, 4 KOs) will soon clash for the vacant European middleweight title.

Their bout headlines a Matchroom Boxing card at the Copper Box Arena in London, England. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN.

Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their Aug. 22 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

George Liddard vs. Dario Morello press conference quotes

George Liddard

“It’s becoming a common theme,” said Liddard. “Being up here, main event. I’m getting used to it now. It’s not going to change. You’re going to see me up there many more times.”

“Every test I’ve been given I’ve passed. Every time someone’s been put to me I’ve said yes. I’ve never said no to nobody. My team will vouch for me with that and so will Matchroom. I’ve never turned away anyone and I’ve always performed. I’m talking the talk but I also walk the walk. That’s what matters. It’s all good saying these things, you’re going to do these things. You actually got to do them and consistently I’m proving that I’m capable of that. Let’s go pick up this European title Saturday night and like we said, push on to world honours.”

Dario Morello

[The fight] means everything,” said Morello. “I worked a lot for this moment. I worked all my life for this moment and I want to take it. I have to take it. I’m 33 years old. I’m mature enough. I’ve trained enough and I want this title and I’ll take it.”

[I beat him] because inside the ring [it’s just] me and him. So we have to fight and the fight will [be] won by better boxing than the other. It’s easy stuff. I’m very well prepared. I know he is, too, but it isn’t enough for beating me. I’m pretty sure about this and I will prove this on [Saturday].”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Liddard brings pressure to all his opponents, making him a tough prospect for any fighter. He moves his feet and picks his punches well. Liddard is also adept at punching from a variety of angles, something Morello will need to be wary of.

Morello is not a big puncher; his record tells you that, but he’s precise with his work and will look to punch in between Liddard to disrupt the Brit’s work. However, we are backing Liddard to be too smart for the Italian, winning by unanimous decision.
