Tim Tszyu Scored Impressive First Round KO Wednesday Night

Arguably the most popular current fighter in all of Australia wanted to make a statement to close out 2020. And on Wednesday night there, he certainly did. Unbeaten Junior Middleweight Contender, Tim Tszyu, the son of Hall of Famer Kosta Tszyu, scored a devastating first round KO of his New Zealand opponent.

The 26 year old Tszyu was heavily favored to remain unbeaten and did not disappoint, as he knocked Bowyn Morgan down just over a minute into the opening round of their scheduled 10 rounder.

It was a barrage of shots to the body, but then a good uppercut through the guard of Morgan, who had won 14 fights in a row coming in, that rocked him. That was followed by a couple of more right hands and a left that put Morgan down for the first time.

Referee John Cauchi allowed the fight to continue, even though Morgan looked wobbly and Tszyu, now 17-0, 13 KOs, immediately ended things with a wicked overhand right dropping Morgan for the second time.

Cauchi waved the fight off without counting for a TKO at 1:54.

The victory only reinforces that the Tszyu is headed for a world title shot in 2021. This, after earlier impressive win in August, when he stopped former WBO World Welterweight Champion Jeff Horn in eight rounds on his rise up the rankings.

In a sign of Tszyu’s gaining popularity, over 15,000 fans were in attendance Wednesday night at the outdoor Bankwest Stadium in Parramatta, Australia.

It is believed that Tszyu will potentially take part in a potential massive fight card upcoming probably in March or April in Australia. That bill will likely include the third fight between WBA Junior Bantamweight Champ, Joshua Franco and former champion and fellow Australian fan favorite, Andrew Moloney.

Their second fight last month in Las Vegas was controversially ruled a “no-contest” due to what the referee and Nevada officials ruled to be an accidental butt by Moloney that caused Franco’s eye to swell and the fight to be stopped inside of four rounds. Moloney and his camp contend that it was not a butt, but rather his punches the closed Franco’s eye so quickly.

The WBA ordered the third fight earlier this month.

It is also believed that Bob Arum of Top Rank Boxing, who promotes Franco and Moloney, would also bring another of his unbeaten contenders, fellow Australian George Kambosos onto this fight card for a world title bout with new Undisputed Lightweight champ, Teofimo Lopez.

It has been previously mentioned that Tszyu might fight WBO World Junior Middleweight champ, Patrick Teixeira, and Tszyu has previously said that he would be willing to come to the United States to do so.

However, Teixeira is still slated to fight Brian Castano in a mandatory WBO title defense in February, which means it’s unlikely the Tszyu and Teixera would fight in Australia, so soon afterwards.
