Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury feels close. Turki Alalshikh has already confirmed we can expect to see Joshua vs Fury on a date and at a venue to be confirmed. Both have had their tune-up fights, with Fury meandering to a win over the 46-year-old Pole. Joshua survived two stunning first-round knockdowns against Kristian Prenga, before stopping the Albanian in the second round.
With rumours daily on where the fight is likely to be and when it could take place, Joshua’s former trainer Rob McCracken has had his say on the fight, when speaking to Seconds Out.
Joshua vs Fury: Venue confusion continues
The venue for Joshua vs Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) has still to be confirmed; many feel the bout belongs at Wembley Stadium, with the London mayor Sadiq Khan reportedly saying the fight is “doable,” to be staged at Wembley at 4 am making it peak time in the U.S., something Turki Alalshikh clearly wants.
BoxingScene has recently reported that the dream of UK fans of seeing the fight at Wembley Stadium is dead, with the bout likely to take place in New York City.
Rob McCracken has his say on Joshua vs Fury
McCracken was pivotal in the rise of AJ (30-4, 27 KOs), leading him to Olympic glory in 2012 and his first world title. He was also in his corner for the memorable win over Wladimir Klitschko. Speaking to Seconds Out, McCracken was asked about his thoughts regarding Joshua vs Fury:
“Anything can happen in heavyweight boxing. You can have a night that’s not great but yeah it just depends when the fight takes place and what preparation the fighters have. I think they will need a little bit more time to get ready, the both of them.
“Everybody in the world is looking forward to it. Maybe a little bit later than they wanted it but let’s see on the night. It’s heavyweight boxing’s anything can happen. It’s for AJ to make the changes to get it back to where he was.”
