Both women spoke at a press conference ahead of their Aug. 15 contest. Below is some of what they had to say.

Kaye Scott vs. Claressa Shields press conference quotes

Kaye Scott

“The world has been underestimating me because they’ve only been looking at my record of five professional fights,” said Scott. “I’m going to prove on Saturday night I deserve to share the ring with the GWOAT. I earned that.”

“This is the biggest stage I’ve been on but the amateurs gave me a crash course in traveling, talking to media and shaking the nerves. I know I’m in for a tough battle, but I’ve never been one to give up or quit. This is what I’ve trained for and I’m ready.”

Claressa Shields

“I’m in peak form right now,” said Shields. “I feel like I could push a truck. It’s not even about whether she’s weak or strong, it’s that I’m feeling stronger than ever. I know Kaye’s tough and she believes in herself, which is exactly what she needs to bring to a fight like this.”

“I really cannot wait to see what happens when I land this right hand. I respect her confidence, but once we step inside that ring and those heavy shots start landing, the whole dynamic changes and it’s a completely different story.”

Fight prediction

From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: This fight gives Shields an opportunity to become unified middleweight champion again. Scott is a unified champion because she has plenty of qualities, including a sharp jab to control the distance in her fights. She picks her punches well and punches in high volume throughout her fights. But, this marks a huge step up for Scott.

Despite Shields constantly exuding confidence, she never seems to underestimate her opponents. She was a brilliant amateur, and the elite head movement and punch accuracy have shone through in the pros.

Shields will look for Scott to fall short before punishing her with sharp, fast counters. We are predicting Scott to have plenty of endeavour early on, before the American quickly gets into her groove, boxing her way to a wide unanimous decision win.
