Kell Brook open to massive comeback fight against huge name

The welterweight division has produced many memorable fighters and many great fights over the years. On September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV, another intriguing welterweight clash is scheduled to take place, with WBC champion Ryan Garcia facing Conor Benn in the main event of a fight card promoted by Zuffa Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions.

Former IBF welterweight world champion Kell Brook is another boxer who has shone in recent times, and appeared on the Fight Your Corner Podcast with Tony Bellew and Charlie Parsons, where he admitted one name could tempt him out of retirement.

The career of Kell Brook

Brook (40-3, 28 KOs) has mixed at the highest level, and only lost to the very best in the sport. He produced impressive wins against fighters such as Shawn Porter, while challenging pound-for-pound greats such as Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr and Gennady Golovkin.

Throughout Brook’s career, he was linked to a fight with Amir Khan, who he eventually fought and stopped in 2022. While Conor Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) went through his very public trials and tribulations after a pre-fight failed test led to the cancellation of a planned fight with Chris Eubank Jr. 

Brook welcomes Conor Benn showdown

When asked about a long-rumoured potential fight against Conor Benn, Brook said: “There were talks about it, but I don’t know if he were just keeping himself in the media or…because he were still going through what he were going through. Still wanted his name up there.”

Brook was then asked by Tony Bellew if Conor Benn was to lose against Ryan Garcia, would he be willing to face Benn: “Yeah, I could get up for that,” said Brook.

“It’d be massive,” added Brook.

What could happen next

Should Conor Benn lose to Ryan Garcia, could Brook really come out of retirement and present a difficult proposition for Benn? “The Special One” in his prime was a more accomplished fighter than “The Destroyer.”

Benn is brave and wouldn’t shirk a fight with Brook; however, would a win over Brook be enough to position Benn back into the title picture, should he lose on September 12?
