Oscar Collazo Victorious on Golden Boy Promotions Fight Night
Oscar Collazo (10-0, 7 KOs) won a unanimous decision against Gerardo Zapata (14-2-1, 5 KOs) to remain the WBO minimumweight champion.
Scores for the contest were 119-109 (x2) and 117-110. The fight headlined a Golden Boy Promotions card in collaborationwith Miguel Cotto Promotions at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, NY. Fight fans around the world could catch the action live on DAZN. The event was part of the festivities relating to the International Boxing Hall of Fame induction weekend.

In round two, Collazo was hit with a hard right hand that had him shaky legs. He was quick to recover, however, and went back to using his superior technical ability to outbox Zapata. Collazo boxed and moved against an aggressive opponent, whom he gradually wore down. As Zapata slowed down, the reigning champion became more aggressive and continued to outwork the Nicaraguan till the end of the fight.
“He hit me with a good shot. It landed well. He had a lot of power to him,” said Collazo after the fight. “We boxed intelligently and enacted our plan. Champions are able to stay strong and get stronger with adversity. You get knocked down, you wobble, and you get back up stronger and more intelligent. I showed that tonight. I want any champion next.”
