Nova impressive in stoppage of Lozano

Junior Lightweight Abraham Nova made a fiery debut under the Split-T Management banner with an impressive 2nd round stoppage over Mario Ezequiel Sayal Lozano in the main event on Friday night at The MGM Springfield in Springfield, Massachusetts. The fight Nova was in capped off the second-anniversary show of FIGHTNIGHT LIVE and can be seen and replayed currently on UFC Fight Pass with the prelims shown on their Facebook page.

Nova, who is currently ranked #10 in the WBA’s super featherweight world rankings, put on a near perfect performance in front of a packed crowd at the brand new venue. After a feeling out opening round from both fighters, Nova found his range midway through the second and exploded on Lozano. Firing off a series of fast and powerful combinations to both the body and head, Nova dropped the only twice beaten, Lozano forcing the referee to call a halt to the contest at 2:26 into the second round.

“I’m ready for anybody. Top 10. Top 2. The Champ. Anybody can get it. I’m the best-kept secret in boxing. It’s time to make my national television debut and let the world know who Abraham ‘Super’ Nova is,” said Nova after the fight.

I rewatched this fight again and Nova’s stoppage on the card was pretty impressive as he was able to attack the body at will and was definitely throwing punches in bunches. I asked Michael Woods who was calling the blow by blow action on Friday night what stood out from the card Friday night and he said simply in one word “Nova”.

For those who were unfamiliar with Nova’s work like me, he has been making a habit of making short work for himself as he has in his 15 straight victories, only gone the distance in 4 of them. He is a name to keep an eye out on as he climbs thru the ranks fighting out of Murphys Boxing out in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Below is a fan highlight real made for him when he was 12-0.
