Next Opponent for Tim Tszyu Revealed
(Mike Coppinger has since revealed on his X account that the WBO has refused to sanction the bout, which will now take place at a 155-pound catchweight).
Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs), the current WBO world super welterweight champion, will defend his title against Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) in Las Vegas, as reported by Mike Coppinger from ESPN. Tszyu will return to the ring for the first time since his impressive decision win over Brian Mendoza. Thurman will provide intriguing opposition as he has been largely inactive since losing to Manny Pacquiao.

Thurman Inactivity
According to the report from Coppinger, Tszyu will return to the ring on March 30 to face 35-year-old Florida native Thurman. The ESPN update reveals the super welterweight title bout will headline the first PPV event from the new PBC and Amazon Prime Video partnership.
Thurman will move up to 154lbs for his first fight in 25 months, since his 12-round decision win over Mario Barrios on February 5, 2022. Following his defeat to Pacquaio in 2019, Thurman opened up about the depression he experienced: “But the depression set in, because I felt ‘I let this man ( deceased former trainer of 13 years, Ben Getty) down.’…. that was a pinnacle moment of my career. And, to fall that short? Should have been a moment of glory. It was painful. It was very painful. It was very depressing.”
He continued regarding the ending of the Pacquiao fight: “I should have put my foot on the gas. Full throttle all the way down. So, that at the end of the day, I know that I left nothing on the table. But, I made a mistake. And, I’ve learned from it. We’ve moved past it. We’re in a better head space.”
Tim Tszyu vs. Keith Thurman
Tszyu is a phenomenal volume puncher with plenty of power, as proven by his 17 KOs. Every shot he throws is with spite combined with his impressive volume, making him a nightmare for opponents. The Australian also switches well between the head and body.
Thurman throws his combinations in quick bursts and from various angles. He uses his jab well when setting up power punches and is effective when throwing the left hook.
There’s no doubting Thurman’s quality, but it’s difficult to look past Tszyu wearing his opponent down late on.
