On Saturday, July 20, Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) will clash with Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs), with the fight streamed live and exclusively on Netflix. As previously announced, the co-main event will be undisputed super lightweight world champion Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) against Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs). Questions have been asked about whether Tyson-Paul would be sanctioned as a professional fight, and these questions have finally been answered in a press release from Most Valuable Promotions. The card will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Most Valuable Promotions have finally confirmed that Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul has been sanctioned as a professional fight. The much-anticipated bout will be sanctioned – by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR).

The finer details of the contest were also revealed, with there being eight 2-minute rounds, with 14oz. gloves. Speaking on the intentions of both fighters when they signed, MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said: “Mike Tyson and Jake Paul signed on to fight each other with the desire to do so in a sanctioned professional fight that would have a definitive outcome.”

He continued: “Over the past six weeks MVP has worked with its partners to satisfy the requirements of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) to sanction Paul Vs Tyson and we are grateful that we have gotten to this point. MVP has championed fighter choice since its inception, including advocating for women’s boxing to be contested with 2 or 3-minute rounds based on the particular fight matchup. Paul vs Tyson and Taylor vs Serrano 2 will both be contested with 2-minute rounds and each mega-fight will have its winner. Thank you to the TDLR and Holden Boxing for their efforts throughout this process to date and we look forward to working closely with them as we approach fight night.” 

Last Time Out

“Iron Mike” last fought in a 2020 exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr. and was last seen in a sanctioned professional bout when he lost to journeyman Kevin McBride. Before that, Tyson lost to Danny Williams by a fourth-round KO.

Since losing to Tommy Fury, “The Problem Child” has won three fights in a row with emphatic wins against Andre August and Ryan Bourland
