Emanuel Navarrete vs. Charly Suarez: Press Conference Quotes and Fight Prediction

Emanuel Navarrete (39-2-1, 32 KOs) will soon defend his WBO super featherweight world title against Charly Suarez (18-0, 10 KOs).

Their bout headlines a Top Rank card at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, CA. Boxing fans in the United States can catch the action on ESPN, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes. Those in the United Kingdom will be able to do so on Sky Sports. In Canada, it will be broadcast on TSN+.

Ahead of their May 10 clash, both fighters spoke at a press conference. Here’s what they had to say.

Emanuel Navarrete vs. Charly Suarez Press Conference Quotes

Emanuel Navarrete

“What we did in that night against [Óscar] Valdez was our way of demonstrating that we are at 100 per cent,” said Navarrete through an interpreter. “There’s no doubt now that we are at 100 per cent. So now we have to work in the camps and preparation [sic]. Do them very well so that we can achieve everything that we desire.”

Obviously, we know what happened the last time I was in San Diego. We did not get the victory. We lost against Denys Berinchyk in our attempt to win a title at 135 pounds. Now, defending at 130, we want to first of all show people and let them know with a good performance that I’m ready to continue moving forward with my career. We also worked hard to give a good fight. We know that Suarez is coming for the title so we want it to be a good card and we want it to be a good fight so that all the people know that I’m ready…”

Charly Suarez

“This is my time that I’ve been waiting for almost half of my career,” said Suarez. “I prayed for this fight and this is it. The opportunity comes to us, comes to my team and we grab it and don’t lose it.”

“All of my amateur fights, this is my experience that I bring into the pro career. This is it. The world title comes so I’m ready and I’m excited for this fight this coming Saturday night.”

Fight Prediction

Navarrete’s physical advantages have helped him tremendously in his past fights. He was often the taller fighter with the longer reach. Add to that his punch output, and you have someone who is a nightmare for anyone under 130 lbs. However, things are different this time around. Suarez is only one inch shorter than the Mexican. His reach is also two inches longer. Suarez may just be able to keep Navarrete at bay and avoid getting hit with the high volume of punches that will come at him. Big Fight Weekend predicts a unanimous decision win for Suarez.
