‘It Could Be On Sight’ – Eddie Hearn Reacts to Benn-Eubank Chaos

On February 25, the boxing world witnessed Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. come face to face at the opening press conference for their April 26 fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Benn vs. Eubank Jr. has been a simmering rivalry since their original fight fell apart due to Benn’s two failed drug tests. This highly anticipated bout will headline the first-ever Ring Magazine UK card. The press conference did not disappoint, as Eubank Jr. shockingly slapped Benn across the face with an egg. Eddie Hearn, who was next to the melee, spoke to The Stomping Ground, revealing what it was like on stage following the incident.

This simmering rivalry has been building since 2022 with no love lost between the two and that dislike boiled over at the opening press conference, which resulted in a planned face-off for February 26 being cancelled.

Benn vs Eubank (34-3, 25 KOs) became a reality following Benn’s statement via his X account, claiming he had been cleared to fight again. Following that news, the UK Anti-Doping and British Board of Boxing Control decided not to appeal the decision to lift his suspension. Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) vs Eubank Jr. was soon made after these swift developments.

Following the heated presser, Hearn reflected on the events and said: “It could be on sight.”

“What happened was: Nigel Benn went straight round the side to go for (Chris) Eubank and I went over to that area. But as I went over to that area, Ben (Shalom) came onto the stage and I was like, what the fuck are you doing? Get out. You should be over there. Your Man’s gone,” added Hearn regarding the heated face-off and resulting slap.

“I weren’t going to whack Eubank or anything, but I was going over because Nigel was over there, and I don’t want Nigel to be over there with all that lot,” added the Matchroom Sport chairman.

“Naturally, you go over there. But as I went up there, Ben kind of come back on the stage. I see him and went, you f***ing get off you, because he knew about it anyway (Egg slap).”
