Ben Whittaker vs. Braian Suarez press conference quotes and fight prediction
Ben Whittaker (10-0-1, 7 KOs) will soon take on Braian Suarez (21-4, 20 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight contest.
Their bout headlines a Matchroom Boxing card at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live on DAZN. Callum Smith vs. David Morrell was the original main event for this card. However, an injury to Smith resulted in the clash between Whittaker and Suarez to become the new headliner.
Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their April 18 encounter. Below is some of what they had to say.
Ben Whittaker vs. Braian Suarez press conference quotes
Ben Whittaker
“It’s a fight that I like,” said Whittaker. “It’s a fight that I need. When fighters come to fight like this, the best Ben Whittaker turns out. It’s all about activity. It’s all about getting in the ring. It’s all about presenting myself the way Andy [Lee, his trainer] sees in the gym. I’m a professional at heart. The Boots fight [Whittaker had been slated to be on the undercard of Jaron Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. had the fight materialized] didn’t happen straight away, but we was in the gym. We was working on the craft and if anything it’s made me more scarier. It’s given me time to work. Iron out those little things that we needed to iron out and you’ll see on Saturday.”
“100 per cent [you’ll see the best of me]. All he can do is walk forward with those slow ass platypus feet and that big ass Roblox head. So what I’m going to do is go out there, look pretty, look good, listen to my team, and how long it lasts, it lasts.”
Braian Suarez
“For sure, this Saturday I’m going to be walking away with the victory against [Whittaker],” said Suarez through an interpreter. “After it’s over, I want to be the second Argentinian fighter signed up to Matchroom.”
“We can all talk, but it’s what happens in the ring that counts and you’ll see Saturday just how big, slow ass I am.”
Fight prediction
From Big Fight Weekend’s Ricky Carroll: Suarez has proven he carries plenty of power, but he will need to catch Whittaker first. “The Surgeon” has impressive speed and timing, while carrying plenty of power himself. His KO win over a tough Liam Cameron was impressive. Many consider Whittaker to be a future world title challenger, and we are tipping him to have too much for Suarez, with a stoppage win for Whittaker between rounds 5-8.
