Anthony Cacace vs. Leigh Wood Press Conference Quotes

Anthony Cacace

“He’s 100 per cent a puncher,” said Cacace. “I’ve watched his fights. He’s hitting people in there and they’re gone. It’s all about catching. I’ve never been in that situation. We’re going to have to see what happens here. I’ve fought big punchers…I’ve been hit by hard men. But, can he box? What can he do? Is all he got is a punch? I don’t know. We’re going to have to find out on Saturday night. But, I believe that Leigh [Wood] hasn’t been punched as hard by anyone. I’m going to be the hardest to hit him…”

“No emotion. It’s just another fight…I respect Leigh. He’s a two-time world champion. I know what he possesses. He possesses a bit of power, but, he can also be very reckless with that power if he thinks he gonna hit me once and that’s it. That’s not how it works. I’m very good at ducking and diving and making the fight the way I want to make the fight. I can punch from all sorts of different angles. Listen, it is what it is. It’s got all the makings of a great fight…But again, it’s a big layoff for him. I’m a wee bit sharper. We’re just going to have to see on the night.”

Leigh Wood

“Listen, nobody’s unbeatable,” said Wood. “And it’s about picking the right tools for the job. Not only we got some good tools, they’ve been oiled, sharpened. We pulled some power tools out to get this job done and we’re gonna get it done.”

“People are talking like I’m moving to middleweight…I was a freak at featherweight. I had to make my last fight at featherweight the [Josh] Warrington fight because the belt, the occasion, my biggest domestic fight. I had to make it and it was hard. It was really hard. I was so stubborn, so I did it. So I’ve moved up. Yeah, I have an extra four pounds, but I still have to come down a long way. I’m still big for the weight, but I can perform it. That’s the difference.”

Fight Prediction

Wood is 36 and has not fought since October 2023. The layoff and his age should have some impact when he faces Cacace. In recent fights, Wood has shown an ability to come back from behind and secure the stoppage. While he may have a puncher’s chance, it seems unlikely given the time he has spent out of the ring. Cacace should be able to outbox his opponent for most of the fight. We expect the fight to go the distance. Cacace to win via unanimous decision.
