Lomachenko legend looks to grow Saturday night
He’s headlined all over the United States, from Madison Square Garden to the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas and even, Staples Center in Los Angeles earlier this year. But tonight, arguably the best smaller weight fighter in the world, Vasiliy Lomachenko, fights for the first time professionally in the UK.
And, this is not just an ordinary title defense, it will come against arguably England’s most popular fighter currently, former Olympic champion and WBC number one Contender, Luke Campbell.
We have written throughout the week that Lomachenko is heavily favored, but Campbell will have a partisan home crowd of over 18,000 in attendance at the O2 Arena for this one.
On this week’s edition of the Big Fight Weekend podcast we preview Lomachenko’s third defense of his WBA and WBO lightweight belts. And, he’s trying to now acquire a third one, the WBC title.
You will hear from David Payne aka, “The Boxing Writer,” from the U.K., who gives his insight on what chance Campbell may have to pull the upset against the heavily favored former two-time Olympic gold medal Champion, Lomachenko?
Payne also has thoughts on Russian Sergey Kovalev’s wild Light Heavyweight World Title win last week over England’s Anthony Yarde. And, how realistically Kovalev can be back in the ring in two months to fight Canelo Alvarez November 2nd in Las Vegas?
Next up is Keith Idec of Boxingscene.com, their senior writer and columnist and he also has thoughts on Lomachenko vs. Campbell and follows up on his writing on the possibility of Kovalev and Alvarez. Keith has particular insight, as to why he doesn’t think Alvarez will ever fight it 160 lbs. again, as well.
The podcast wraps with Marquis Johns of Bigfightweekend.com fame giving his prediction on Lomachenko – Campbell and also a preview of the PBC on Fox Card Saturday night from Minnesota.
