Lomachenko Looking To Become Champ Once Again

The last time the Ukrainian held a world title was over three years ago. In October 2020, Lomachenko lost a unanimous decision to now WBO super lightweight titlist Teófimo López. Since then, he is 3-1 in a run that also included a crack at former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney. “Loma” lost that fight via a highly debated unanimous decision. Against Kambosos, he now looks to become champion once again.

Hear about Rafael’s reporting of Lomachenko-Kambosos and more on the “Big Fight Weekend Preview” podcast with TJ Rives.

Kambosos Returns to Australia

Kambosos became the unified lightweight champion with a shock split decision win over López. What followed were back-to-back losses against Haney in his native Australia. The former unified champion had just one bout in 2023, a controversial majority decision win over Maxi Hughes in Shawnee, OK. Kambosos will seek to reclaim one of the belts he lost to López.

Although yet to be officially announced, Kambosos appears to have confirmed the upcoming bout in a post to his X (formerly Twitter) account: “Two warriors in a battle for the ages for the lightweight world championship in Australia!” An official announcement will make things clearer, in addition to which outlet will broadcast the event (most probably ESPN).
