Thurman: Everyone wanted a shot at Pacquiao
Would you believe that there some in the boxing community that is even questioning the thought or decision of Keith Thurman in his upcoming fight against Manny Pacquiao in their much-anticipated bout on July 20th?
Well, there is always the argument for something and that one was poised to Thurman in an interview to Boxing News. Keith explains to them that this fight not only is the one he wanted but one that countless others wanted as well.
“I wanted to fight Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather six years ago at the age of 24. I was never presented with the opportunity at that time. I’m presented with the opportunity today. So the opportunity’s not coming tomorrow, it’s here today. I’ve got to take full advantage of it,” Thurman told the Boxing News.
“Every welterweight in the welterweight division wanted this fight. They can say whatever they say want to say about this fight but everybody wanted this fight. Errol Spence, Shawn Porter even Terence Crawford would take this fight. Everybody wanted this fight, as long as Manny Pacquiao still wanted to be an active fighter and he wanted to make more exciting fights for the fight fans. I just think this is one of the best match ups of the year and I definitely believe it could be one of the best fights of the year once we start trading.”
I honestly don’t think there is anyone in opposition of this fight with the exception of the names that Keith mentioned in the Boxing News interview for the same exact reason. Thurman has mentioned that he has wanted this fight a while now and while those can question the timing of it, you can’t deny the box office draw that Senator Pacquiao still brings to boxing. Thurman said this was a get back year for in 2019 and what better way to do that in what will be the biggest fight of 2019.
