Turki Alalshikh Reveals the Only Fight That Terence Crawford Wants

At the BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on August 3/4, we saw Terence Crawford become a four-division world champion, winning the WBA super welterweight title from Israil Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs). Attention quickly turned to what Crawford would do next. The Omaha native has already vacated his WBO welterweight title – to seemingly remain at 154lbs. Turki Alalshikh has now revealed to Charlie Parsons on X the only fight he believes Crawford wants.

Terence Crawford vs. Canelo Álvarez Rumours

Turki Alalshik Believes Terence Crawford Only Wants Canelo Álvarez

Following his historic win over Madrimov, Crawford was asked about the Canelo fight and said: “If the money’s right, you got a fight…. But, at the same time he’s got a fight he’s focused on. I’m going to go back to my family. i’m going to relax. I’m going to enjoy this and enjoy all the accomplishments I’ve made in the sport of boxing.” He added: “It’s not important to me. It’s just another milestone to greatness I suppose. And, financially wise, too.”

Alalshikh seemingly had moved on from the possibility of Crawford-Canelo, when he announced on X: “Just wrapped up an important meeting now with my team, planning for the upcoming fights that we will make for 2024-2025. I decided to disregard the Canelo fight, as I don’t want it anymore. Instead, I will be focusing for the US market with bigger fights, especially for the legend Crawford.”

In his recent Q&A with Parsons, Alalshikh discussed what could be next for Crawford, whether it would be Ortiz Jr. or a super fight with Álvarez: “I don’t think Crawford will fight anyone but Canelo (Alvarez). This is my opinion,” Alalshikh said. His Excellency continued: “We give (Crawford) offer for Ortiz. I don’t think he will take it. He only wants Canelo.”

Other Options for Crawford

The other most likely option for Crawford appears a world title clash with Vergil Ortiz Jr. at 154lbs and Alalshikh has spoken to Fight Hub TV following Ortiz Jr-Bohachuk about his desire to make Ortiz-Crawford: “It was a great fight. I thought it was a draw. We want him for Crawford, but if he has a rematch in the future with this guy, it would be amazing.”

The recent public words exchanged between His Excellency and Canelo seemingly make negotiations for Álvarez-Crawford more difficult. Despite this, His Excellency appears to accept it’s the fight “Bud” wants, and Alalshikh has proven he’s great at making the best fights. Canelo vs. Crawford back on?
