‘That Will Be a Real Crossroads Fight’: Likely Co-feature Bout for Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez vs. Juan Francisco Estrada Card

One of the best fights possible in boxing has been made for June 29 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, as the legendary Juan Francisco Estrada defends his WBC and Ring Magazine world super-flyweight titles against the undefeated Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez. Dan Rafael on the latest Big Fight Weekend podcast has revealed a likely intriguing contest as the co-feature.

Estrada vs. ‘Bam’

During the latest BFW podcast, Rafael gave his positive reaction to the news of “Bam” vs. Estrada for June 29, but interestingly gave some insights on a likely fight on the undercard: “My sources tell me that the co-feature on this Estrada against Bam fight, they didn’t announce this when they announced the main event, but the co-feature will most likely be the return of Sunny Edwards taking on Adrian Curiel who if you remember, had the back-to-back fights at 108lbs with my boy Sivenathi Nontshinga.”

He continued: “That will be a real crossroads fight.” Rafael concluded: “The guy that wins will suddenly become a player once again.”

“That’s got a very good chance of being squared away as the co-feature.”

Edwards (20-1, 4 KOs) was last seen when he was brutally stopped against “Bam” Rodriguez, who was in scintillating form and brutally took “Showtime” apart. Despite that loss, Edwards has plenty of ability. He possesses exceptional lateral movement and throws every punch with thought, often breaking through tight, high guards.

It’s easy to write Curiel (24-5-1, 5 KOs) off, but he has proven he can cause an upset when he sensationally knocked out Nontshinga in their first fight before losing the rematch in a classic.

Eddie Hearn on Estrada vs. ‘Bam’ Rodriguez

Following the announcement of Estrada vs. “Bam,” Eddie Hearn soon gave his reaction: “What a fight this is,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “When the best fight the best, excitement is guaranteed – and there’s no doubt that these are two of the best fighters on the planet.

“There are so many plot lines for us all to get our teeth into in the build-up to this incredible clash – but when the bell goes, the talking will stop, and we will be treated to something very special. Both fighters are to be commended for taking on the challenge – will ‘Gallo’ prove too much too soon for Jesse, or can ‘Bam’ add Juan’s name to his already incredible CV?”
