Santiago Looking To End Broner?

Little is known of Jovanie “El Lobito” Santiago, except he is the man who will be opposite of Adrien Broner’s in-ring return on Showtime on February 20th.

Santiago (14-0-1.10 KOs), speaking with Carlos Gonzalez of Primera Hora, is looking to use that to his advantage to upset the former four-division champ Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs).

“The pressure will be on Broner because losing to me would be the end of his career. I am not well-known, so for me, it would be a jump to the big leagues. We are going to train harder, doing many things in the gym to deal with his speed,” stated Santiago to Primera Hora.

Broner’s career-ending at the hands of Jovanie Santiago? Go On.

“It is the fight of my life. It will be a great opportunity for the boxing world to know me and because it will be televised through a network like Showtime,” said Santiago.

Santiago was the new opponent named once original challenger Pedro Campa, who pulled out once he tested positive for COVID-19. Santiago was last in action back in December 2019 in a first-round stoppage of Juan Zegarra i. That stoppage and other highlights of Santiago was created in this video by the gang over at FightSport TV, in case you have never seen him in action below.

But does Santiago really have a shot?

The latest odds on this contest aren’t out yet, but it’s safe to assume Broner, despite not being in the ring since losing to Manny Pacquiao in January 2019, would still be heavily favored despite the long layoff. While that doesn’t bode well for Santiago’s goal, he’s using this as a chance of a lifetime.

“If we win this fight, other great fights will emerge, but not only that, a world title fight may come shortly after, which is what every boxer looks for. It’s what I hope for by defeating an opponent like that (Broner). Beating a champion like that would be the best,” Santiago said.

Santiago may have this going for him. The last time Broner had a stoppage win back in 2016 against Ashley Theoplane.
