Report- Details so far about Wilder-Fury 2

The big news in the world of boxing that broke Friday was that it was made official the heavyweight rematch for Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury by Top Rank. As the day unfolded, Mike Coppinger of The Athletic has been dropping bits and pieces that will mold the card that is taking place on February 22nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I’ve compiled the details that Coppiner laid out.

First things first, if you were looking to see Wilder and Fury in your town in terms of a press tour to build-up the fight, that is sadly not going to happen. What is interesting about that not happening is the idea of these two go back and forth with smack talk before the fight honestly cuts into the time that these two have been back and forth at it on social. While I admit it couldn’t hurt as these press tours can be something that was a treat before most Floyd Mayweather fights, these two have been talking online since the draw back in December of 2018.

Another thing of note per source of Coppinger is that the main card will be an ESPN production. What does that means for fans of Brian Kenny, Lennox Lewis, and Joe Goosen of Fox? You will have  to be content with the current ESPN telecast handled by blow by blow man Joe Tessitore and former world champions Tim Bradley and Andre Ward.

Coppinger later tweeted that in the event there is a WIlder-Fury III, it would be flipped being a FOX production and that some actual FOX personalities will be apart of the broadcast.

The third tweet of note that Coppinger mentioned is that the three-fight telecast will feature one fight from Premier Boxing Champions and one from Top Rank Boxing leading into the Wilder-Fury rematch. Another fight being talked about as well as a match between Kubrat Pulev vs. Adam Kownacki. The battle if current IBF Champion Anthony Joshua is forced to vacate that title would pit these two contenders for that heavyweight belt.
Joshua is going to have to choose between the IBF belt or the WBO belt to defend next, and we’ll know which one in 2020.

More information will come out on who is going to be on this big card in February as it gets closer. Still, it’s safe to assume that this one will be a huge one and one that is going not to transcend boxing but, if successful, will keep all boxing politics back to the only party that matters: money.
