WBC Orders Rematch Between O’Shaquie Foster and Robson Conceição

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed that a rematch between O’Shaquie Foster (22-3, 12 KOs) and Robson Conceição (19-2-1, 9 KOs, 1 NC) has been ordered.

In a statement posted to X on July 22, Sulaiman wrote that the WBC board of governors has ruled to order the two super featherweights to have a direct rematch. The decision comes only a few weeks after Conceição won a shocking split decision against Foster. With the win, the Brazilian became the new WBC super featherweight champion.

A Bizarre Decision

When the official result was announced following the end of the fight, it came as a shock to many viewers. This is what Big Fight Weekend wrote at the time:

“While one judge saw it 116-112 for Foster, the other two had it 116-112 and 115-113 for Conceição. The two scores for the Brazilian came as a shock, considering he struggled to land against Foster. The American was defensively sound for the entire fight, appearing to win a wide unanimous decision. Incredibly, two judges scored it for Conceição, making him the new WBC super featherweight champion.”

Foster also appeared to be shocked by the decision and was visibly upset by it. When interviewed in the ring, he said:

“I don’t know, I thought it was a shutout,” said Foster. “I don’t know.”

That’s what I’m saying, I thought that was a shutout. I don’t know, man. I thought it was an easy fight. Didn’t get touched [except for] the headbutt, but like, I don’t know man.”

Looking Forward

Both Foster and Conceição have yet to react to Sulaiman’s statement as this piece goes published, butIce Waterdid post this to Instagram a day prior to the order. At present, it remains unknown when the ordered rematch takes place, if at all. However, fight fans can expect more details in the coming months.
