O’Sullivan ‘ready for war’ with Munguia

Spike O’Sullivan is taking on Jamie Munguia this Saturday at the Alamodome, and to say he is an underdog in this one is an understatement. While O’Sullivan is coming off a stoppage victory last March in Boston, many will point to his fight against David Lemieux that he was defeated in one round.

O’Sullivan speaking to the media during the workout in San Antonio this week is looking to change that around and is ready for Munguia.

“I’m ready for war. Jaime Munguia is an undefeated champion, and he’s also young,” O’Sullivan said at the media workout held this week in San Antonio. He has become a great Mexican warrior, and I expect nothing less from him. I truly respect him, and I know he respects me as well. Hopefully, we’re going to be able to put on a great fight for the audience on Saturday. I believe I have the ability to beat anybody and always come up with a win. It’s all about your mindset.”

It backs up his focus as when O’Sullivan spoke with The Independent, letting it go to the scorecards was not in his best interest.

“I think if I knock him down in every round but he is able to continue I won’t get the decision,” O’Sullivan said to Seán McGoldrick in the Independent. There won’t be many there shouting for me, though I expect I will have a few supporters in the sell-out crowd. Brian O’Connor, whose father Dave has sponsored my suits since 2008, lives out there, and he is organizing a bus for fans.

O’Sullivan taking on Munguia in his debut at middleweight, will have to come against the crowd in support of the 25-year fighter from Mexico. Munguia has gone to say leading up to this fight that it is going to be short night and expects to drop O’Sullivan in four rounds. This Saturday, O’Sullivan is coming in focused and prepared for the upset.

“I come prepared. I’m a hard worker, and I’m going to show it off on Saturday night. Whenever I’m fighting, I try to put my heart on it. This is no different for me. I’ve received great support from my team, and I respect their time and their sacrifices,” O’Sullivan said.
