Julio Cesar Martinez Eyeing Dalakian Or Mthalane Bouts In 2021

WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez is looking to try to unify the belts in 2021 but has a few things in his way.

Martinez first must take on mandatory challenger McWilliams Arroyo which was to happen back in December but was scrapped because he had gotten ill and had to withdraw from the contest. The WBC ordered the fight order to take place by February 5th otherwise it will go up to a purse bid. Expect the fight to take place more than likely in March alongside the Choclatito fight card in March.

Once Martinez is successful against Arroyo, he spoke about unifying afterward against Artem Dalakian and Moruti Mthalane.

“I’m ready to come back, to defend the title. I want to make history, and although there are plans to move up to the next weight division, I first I want to unify my titles. We want the best, God first, to show what we are made of,” Martinez said to Erika Montoya.

According to Martinez, he was attempting to get fights with both of the world champions – but he stated they wanted too much time to prepare for the fight in advance.

“We were already negotiating with Artem Dalakian and with the African (Moruti Mthalane) but they asked for four or five months of preparation and I like to fight often and not sit around. I also want to defend my belt… We are waiting to see who raises their hand to unify. Right now we are going forward with everything, except with fear, and we are very motivated… this is just the beginning, it is the first seed to making history,” Martinez said.

Well see if any of that materializes we’ll see but the goal for Martinez before he moves up is to be active and unify, can’t ask for anything more than that.
