Joe Joyce Manager Talks Honestly About the Future of the ‘Juggernaut’

On Saturday, July 27, at the O2 Arena in London, Derek Chisora (35-13, 23 KOs) defeated Joe Joyce (16-3, 15 KOs) in a gruelling main event on a Queensberry Promotions show. The entire card was shown live on TNT Sports for those in the UK and on ESPN+ for those in the United States. Following the fight, Adam Morallee, the manager of Joyce spoke honestly to Louis Hart at Boxing Social about the future of his fighter.

Joe Joyce Manager Discusses Derek Chisora Defeat

Adam Morallee Praises Chisora

Morallee was quickly asked about his thoughts in the immediate aftermath of the main event: “It was a very, very tough brutal fight for both of them. I don’t think you can complain about the scorecards. It was a very close fight. I think when we looked at the scorecards if Joe hadn’t been dropped, he would have won the fight, because that’s just how the scorecards were, I just had a look at them. Joe would have had a 10-9 round (round 9).

He continued: “That said, it was a very even fight. Derek took a lot more damage but fair enough, he won the fight.”

Hart then asked Morallee about the knockdown and dealing with the significance of it: Yeah look, it’s difficult. It’s a difficult loss to take for Joe. We need to think about what’s next for Joe. It’s really really difficult – I thought Joe…I think it was the sixth round, the ref almost stopped the fight. He was really really close to stopping it. Joe Just didn’t quite have enough tonight.”

Morallee continued: “I thought Derek was superhuman in there. I mean he was on fumes from rounds six, seven onwards, incredible.” He added regarding Chisora: “Incredible, I don’t know how he stayed on his feet.”

Future for Joe Joyce

Morallee was then asked about the future of Joyce and said: “It’s a matter for Joe Joyce, isn’t it? Joe’s future is a matter for Joe. He’s the one who gets in the ring. Out of the two of them, one of them got helped back to the changing room and one didn’t, Joe didn’t. I think it’s challenging now. I think it’s really challenging for Joe to find a way back to the top. For his career, it’s a question for him. There will always be fights for Joe Joyce. There will always be fights for someone who fights like that.”

He continued: “It’s tough, it’s tough right now. I always think you shouldn’t make decisions like this immediately. You need to take a breath, take a step and then think about what’s right. Joe’s been fighting for a long time and he’s done well with it but he needs to think about the future. It’s not simple.”
