Jermell Charlo Speaks On Staying At 154

Jermell Charlo is a WBO middleweight title away from becoming undisputed at 154 pounds and has a chance to capture that when he takes on Brian Castano on July 17th at the AT&T Center in San Antonio Texas.

Charlo was the latest guest on “The Last Stand Podcast With Brian Custer” and mentioned the possibility of moving up to super middleweight.

“I can be at 154. I can stay here to fight. I don’t know [who] the next guys [will be] and just beat everybody up. If the money is making sense, I’ll move up to 160, my twin brother is there, and we can accomplish goals together. It all depends on how hungry I am for something like that,” Charlo said on The Last Stand.

“I stand strong in this weight division, and I don’t think nobody can come to this weight division and f— with me, I’m sorry I’m that guy in this weight division!”

(Sidenote: If you had subscribed to The Big Fight Weekend Podcast, you’d known about this when we spoke to him last month.)

Charlo hinting at moving up isn’t anything new at all. It’s been floated around for a while now, and if he is victorious against Castano, it makes sense to move up to 160. Will he take on his twin brother and current WBC champion Jermall there? Not likely, and I go back to what Charlo said earlier about the money being right wherever he goes.

However, Castano does stand in the way first, and Charlo feels his power will lead him in that bout, which will be the latest main event on Showtime in two weeks.

“If I can land a right clear shot, I don’t know if he can get hit with that many shots or take that type of power I’m going to possess on July 17th, so I don’t want to predict a knockout I just like to have tough wars,” Charlo stated.
