Jermall Charlo-‘Where are the rest of the belts at?’
Monday afternoon, Unbeaten WBC Middleweight World Champion Jermall Charlo held a training camp Monday with a virtual media workout as he prepares to face top contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko. That bout will headline part one of a first-of-its-kind SHOWTIME PPV doubleheader Saturday, September 26.
One thing Charlo made known is that he wants to capture all the belts as soon as possible at middleweight following his defense against Derevyanchenko.
“We don’t have too much longer to be doing this. Where are the rest of the belts at? I’m ready,” Charlo said at the virtual Zoom workout hosted by Ray Flores Monday. “Watch next Saturday night, because I’m making this statement loud for everyone who doubted me.”
“Buckle yo seatbelt. Yeah, buckle yo seatbelt. It’s liftoff,” noted Charlo. “Everyone that was doubting me, everyone who was thinking they wouldn’t get a turn, you’ll get yo chance. You hold tight. I’m running the show (at middleweight). I’m driving the boat. I got the big boat, so y’all stay locked. The spaceship gonna take off. You better be on it. If not, you gonna get skipped over.

The landscape at middleweight for Jermall involves the rest at 160 currently on “the other side of the street” as the other champions Gennady Golovkin, Canelo Alvarez, and Demetrius Andrade, are with other promotional outlets. That cat and mouse game is well documented at this point and was picked up again earlier in the year during the pandemic between Charlo and Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn.
In the meantime, Derevyanchenko is the focus, and it is something that Charlo is well aware of matchup wise.
“Derevyanchenko is a come-forward fighter. He’s going to bring a lot of power and speed with good technical skills. He calls himself ‘The Technician,’ but we’ll see how technical he is once I start putting my jab in his face. I’m going to use all my natural skills in this fight,” Charlo stated.
Both are out to prove which one is the better man in the ring and will find out as this contest closes out the first half of the double pay-per-view on the 26th.
