More Legal Woes for ‘The Real Big Baby’

On Saturday, April 13, Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson (16-0, 15 KOs) is set to face Belgian contender Ryad Merhy (32-2, 26 KOs) in a 10-round bout at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. However, on Thursday, February 29, the promising heavyweight had his preparation interrupted with legal troubles as he was arrested – on a warrant for allegedly obstructing police in Huron Township, Michigan, according to court records seen by ESPN. It appears Anderson has not been released as of yet despite not being charged.

Latest Interruption for Jared Anderson

According to the latest at the Huron Township Police Department, Anderson has not yet been charged with any offence but is still being held. The rising star in the heavyweight division is due to headline the April 13 bill in Texas against Merhy. Anderson enjoyed a productive 2023, which saw him defeat Charles Martin by unanimous decision and stop Andriy Rudenko in round five. 

Previously, the Ohio native was arrested in November 2023 and charged with improperly handling firearms in a vehicle while knowingly under the influence and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The following month saw “The Real Big Baby” plead no contest to an amended charge of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle while the operating a vehicle impaired charge was dropped. Following the amended charges, he was fined $200 – and handed a 180-day suspended sentence at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, which was contingent on the Ohio native not committing a similar offence within one year. Top Rank have declined to comment according to Coppinger.

Rest of the Top Rank Card

The rest of the April 13 card will see Nigerian boxer Efe Ajagba and Guido Vianello clash in the co-feature. Three-time world title challenger Robson Conceicao will also return to the ring against Jose Guardado. The latest news from Top Rank has seen the promotional outfit confirm Julian Delgado will make his professional debut on the card.
