The WBO Middleweight Championship bout between titleholder Janibek Alimkhanuly and Steven Butler is upon us.
Alimkhanuly comes in with an unbeaten record of 13-0 with eight of those wins coming by way of knockout. Butler enters the title fight with a record of 32-3-1. He’s currently on a four-fight winning streak and hasn’t lost a bout since early 2021. This will be Butler’s second major title fight. His bid for the WBA Middleweight Championship fell short, as the now-retired Ryota Murata stopped him in the fifth round via TKO in their 2019 title fight.
Stockton Arena in Stockton, California will play host to Alimkhanuly vs. Butler. It’ll be Alimkhanuly’s first bout in California since 2019 when he knocked out Albert Onolunose in the sixth round of their WBC Continental Americas middleweight title fight. Believe it or not, this will be Butler’s first pro boxing match in the state of California. Most of Butler’s fights have been held in Canada, but he did make trips to Japan, Mexico, and Las Vegas.
