Crawfordm 38-0, 29 KOs, is making his 2022 debut, with only three weeks left in the year, after failing to agree to an undisputed fight with unified WBC/WBA/IBF champ Errol Spence. There’s still some belief that the two will agree and meet next summer in what would still be a very intriguing bout. For now, they’re both fighting someone else (of a lesser caliber) next.

It’s a homecoming for the 147 lb. champ, as he’s fighting in the downtown Omaha CHI Health Center.

Crawford previously fought in a raucous environment in that same arena in October 2018. That’s when he headlined the ESPN/Top Rank Boxing show from Omaha and stopped Jose Benavidez Jr. in the 12th and final round He also fought at the CHI Health Center defending his unified 140 lb. titles in a TKO win over John Molina Jr. in June 2016.

Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs). is a Russian by birth but has been fighting out of England for years. In fact, he’s won his last three fights. all at London’s Wembley arena by KO. That includes his first round KO of Oskari Metz in March of this year.

Crawford sized up his opponent

“Avanesyan is a good fighter. He’s on a good winning streak, and beat a guy in the U.K., in Josh Kelly who people thought was going to be a star. I have to train like I am facing King Kong on December 10th, because Avanesyan has everything to gain and nothing to lose. I know he is going to bring everything on December 10th, so I’m not looking past him. This will be the best Avanesyan, so I have to be the best Terence Crawford.”

Now, we’ll find out how long Crawford takes to get it done
