Farmer-“My goal is to become undisputed”
IBF Featherweight champ Tevin Farmer is coming off his fifth successful defense against Guillaume Frenois who he beat by wide unanimous decision in July. He also has no plans on slowing down his contests in the ring.
Farmer recently sat down on the latest episode of “Max on Boxing” on ESPN and explained to Max Kellerman that his goal in boxing is to become the undisputed champion.
“My goal is to become undisputed said Farmer to Max. Do I think it’s going to happen? No.”
When Kellerman followed up asking why Farmer stated:
“Politics. I feel like it’s four world champions and we are all on different sides of the board. Nowadays, It’s hard to come to an agreement promoter to promoter to make the fighter’s fight. I feel like everyone always wants the upper hand, and I don’t think that’s possible.”
The board that Farmer is referring to is the different promoters representing the current champions at the 130 lb division. Farmer is promoted by Matchroom Boxing, with Gervonta Davis of the WBA belt promoted by Mayweather Promotions. Top Rank promotes the other two champions Jamel Herring with the WBO and Miguel Berchelt with the WBC straps. Not only have had issues trying to get the belts unified, in the case of Top Rank under the same umbrella, have had a hard time making the match with each other.

Farmer also insisted that he was taking a “layoff” and would be fighting again in the ring around November or later if it would finally lead to a unification bout against Gervonta Davis. Farmer, however, isn’t sold that he’s not facing him next.
“I’m looking to fight Gervonta Davis,” Farmer said to Max. I’ll wait another month if we can make the Gervonta Davis fight happen. But I have to fight this year, I will not wait for January or February to fight again.”
Farmer’s promoters have made at least two different offers to take on Davis with no such luck. He’s willing to keep it moving and take on anyone else who will challenge him in the ring.
He told Max, “If it makes sense, I’ll fight anybody., but I also believe I have the highest IQ (in the ring).”
Let’s see if this finally gets us a bout of Davis and Farmer. If not, Farmer has been mentioned to take on former Olympian Joesph “JoJo” Diaz. Either way, we’ll see Farmer in the ring before the year is out.
