Royston Barney-Smith vs Conor McIntosh

Up next on the undercard was Royston Barney-Smith (16-0, 8 KOs) vs Conor McIntosh (10-3, 1 KO) for the vacant British and Commonwealth super featherweight titles.

Barney-Smith started with plenty of confidence, controlling the distance and punching long with speed and accuracy. McIntosh tried to fire back, but Barney-Smith looked sharp in the opening three minutes. A brutal body shot halfway through the second had McIntosh in trouble, and Smith smelled the finish, scoring three brutal knockdowns, leading the referee to wave the fight off after the third knockdown.

McIntosh showed a lot of bravery, beating the count after the first two knockdowns, but “Sugar Boy Roy” showed great poise, power, and a real vicious streak to stop McIntosh and become the British and Commonwealth super featherweight champion by TKO. Could Britain have just seen its next world champion?

John Joe Carrigan vs Harley Hodgetts

In the second fight of the Cristobal Lorente vs Nathaniel Collins 2 card, it was one of the most talented prospects in British boxing, John Joe Carrigan (3-0, 3 KOs), who faced Harley Hodgetts (5-7, 1 KO) in the middleweight division.

It was a fast start from Carrigan, showcasing how good he is at controlling the distance. Carrigan soon landed a left-right combination, flooring Hodgetts, who was unable to beat the count. Carrigan wins by first-round KO.

Dylan Arbuckle vs Nico Leivars

In the first fight of the night, it was Dylan Arbuckle (10-0, 4 KOs) taking on Nico Leivars (7-1-1, 1 KO) for the vacant British super bantamweight title.

It was an action-packed opening round, with Leivars applying the pressure on the front foot, but Arbuckle looked good off the back foot, picking his punches impressively. The second round began in the same vein, before Leivars’ pressure saw him take the second, landing some eye-catching shots.

Arbuckle began to look more settled in the fourth, before Leivars applied more pressure. Arbuckle did have some success in the fourth, but the pressure from Leivars was more than noticeable. While on his stool preparing for the fifth round, Leivars expressed to his corner that he was struggling with a cut, and his trainer, Grant Smith, pulled his man out, crowning the Scottish fighter the new British super bantamweight champion by TKO. We could well see a rematch in the future; it felt like the fight was really getting into a groove.
