Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2: Oscar De La Hoya Issues Stark Warning
Eubank Jr vs Benn took place on April 26 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a highly anticipated middleweight grudge match. Headlining The Ring’s Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves fight card, the bout lived up to the hype — from the ring walks to the final bell — with Eubank emerging victorious. Immediately after the fight, attention quickly turned to a possible rematch, with Eddie Hearn revealing the same venue was booked for September. Talking about a possible second fight with Fight Hub TV, Oscar De La Hoya issued a warning about rushing into a rematch.

The opening two rounds were full of tension with Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) having the better of the early exchanges, working well off his jab. Benn was landing the more eye-catching shots, but the cleaner work came from Eubank, who began to establish the distance and control many of the rounds with his jab.
Benn still looked sharp and seemed to hurt Eubank (35-3, 25 KOs) in the eighth, with more big punches from both as the rounds progressed. It was a close fight with many rounds not easy to score but the cleaner work came from Eubank, and in an action-packed final round, that continued. Following the final bell the scorecards were read, with Eubank winning unanimously, 116-112 x3. A deserved win, but a great fight.
When reflecting on a potential Eubank-Benn rematch, De La Hoya said: “A rematch right away will probably end their career.”
He continued: “These rematches with these types of intense fights taking place, like Conor and Eubank – a rematch right away will probably end their career. You know, it’s that intense.”
“They have their own careers to deal with. I deal with my fighters. I take care of my fighters.”
Whether we see Eubank Jr vs Benn 2, or they both go in different directions, April 26 will live long in the memory of all those in attendance and those watching around the world.
