Chris Eubank Jr. (33-3, 24 KOs) will return to the ring against Kamil Szeremeta (25-2-2, 8 KOs) on October 12, on the Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev undercard. As the build-up to next month begins, Eubank Jr. has spoken to Steve Bunce on the 5 Live Boxing Podcast about the rumoured Canelo Álvarez negotiations and whether he believes the Conor Benn fight will happen.

During the interview, the Brighton man spoke about the next 12 months and his upcoming opponent, Kamil Szeremeta: “We’ve got some very exciting fights over the next 12 months and it all starts in Saudi on October 12.”

He continued: “Some people are calling it a warm-up fight. The guys got a great record. He’s got pedigree, he’s been in with (Jaime) Munguía and GGG, he’s not an idiot.”

“I have multiple fights that are actually bigger than me going and fighting for a belt,” added Eubank.

Bunce then asked the Brighton man whether he believes there is a chance that the Conor Benn fight could still happen, and he replied: “That chapter cannot be closed. That chapter is too big of a chapter. Some people would say it’s the chapter.”

He continued: “That fight will happen. I would imagine it’s going to happen in the next 12 months. As soon as he gets his licence back, as soon as he has his career back on track, that fight will be made.”

Speaking about his desire for the Benn fight, Eubank said: “The opportunity to discipline a cheat. That’s all the motivation I need.”

Eubank Jr. Discusses Canelo Álvarez Negotiations

Rumours were gathering pace that Eubank Jr. could face Álvarez before the Edgar Berlanga fight was announced. During his interview with the 5 Live Boxing Podcast, the Hove native revealed: “There had been discussions absolutely, but we couldn’t come to terms on the business side of things, on the timing side of things. I’ve been out of the ring for a year, I’m not looking to fight Canelo for a payday, which I could have got. I want to beat this guy.”

“My plan is consistent fights over the next six months and fight this guy (Canelo) in May because he fights in May,” added Eubank Jr.

If he secures a victory on October 12, the next 12 months could be both busy and memorable for the Brighton fighter.
